Birds of Western Pennsylvania

Doris Dumrauf has combined her love of nature, especially birds, and her love of photography to become an expert on the birds of Western Pennsylvania. She has turned her backyard into a haven for birds who have become willing photo subjects as well. Over 400 bird species have been recorded in Pennsylvania, making our state an ideal location to observe our feathered friends. Many people recognize the most common birds who visit their yards in the warm weather and wish they could name some of the other varieties they see and hear each day. Many of us wish we could attract certain birds to our yard to enjoy their beauty and their songs. What are the habits of these birds? What foods do they prefer and what are their personalities? Join us as Doris shares her knowledge of these wonderful creatures of nature through her stunning, award-winning photography. She is a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography and is a regular contributor to Pennsylvania Magazine. You will learn to identify many of your backyard visitors and may also learn how to make your yard a welcome site for some of these beautiful birds. You may register for this free program online or by contacting the Adult Services Reference Desk at 412-366-8100 x113.
