Josephine Tey was the
pseudonym of a popular Scottish author, Elizabeth Mackintosh, best known for
her mystery novels. In Miss Pym Disposes,
our mystery for discussion, Miss Lucy Pym detects a
furtiveness in the behavior of one student during her stint as a guest lecturer
at a physical training college in England. When a fatal “accident” occurs, Miss
Pym is forced to admit that among all these impressively healthy students,
someone has a very sick mind. Though
written in the 1950’s, the story is timeless in its exploration of human nature
and moral complexities.
