NA Student Named Semi-Finalist in 2013 National Achievement Scholarship Program

More than 160,000 high school juniors from all parts of the United States requested consideration in the 2013 National Achievement Program.

The North Allegheny School District announces that Rachel Tankersley has been named a semi-finalist in the 2013 National Achievement Scholarship Program, an academic competition for black American high school students.

Rachel is one of approximately 1,600 black American high school seniors who have been designated semi-finalists in the 49th annual National Achievement Scholarship Program.Semi-finalists now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 800 Achievement Scholarship awards worth more than $2.5 million that will be offered next spring.  

More than 160,000 high school juniors from all parts of the United States requested consideration in the 2013 National Achievement Program when they took the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.  Semi-finalists are designated within geographic regions and are the highest-scoring program entrants in the states that make up each region.

The National Achievement Program began in 1964 to honor academically-able black youth throughout the nation and provide scholarships to a substantial number of the most outstanding participants in each annual competition. The program is conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
