North Allegheny Band Named Festival Grand Champions

Seven NA musicians also received individual awards.

The North Allegheny Senior High Honors Wind Ensemble was awarded the Festival Grand Champion Trophy at the 2013 Fiesta-Val invitational music festival in Virginia Beach.

In addition, North Allegheny’s Jazz Ensemble 1 received a citation for Outstanding Contributions to Music Education. Mr. Todd Stefan is Director of the North Allegheny Bands.

The bands were adjudicated by a distinguished panel of judges including: Mr. James L. Hosay, band composer and arranger for the Curnow Music Press, Mr. Dennis Zeisler, Director of Bands at Old Dominion University, and Dr. Mark Reimer, music professor at Christopher Newport University.

The following is a list of the awards and honors won by North Allegheny Bands (a Superior Rating is the highest rating possible):

  • NASH Honors Wind Ensemble - Superior Rating
  • NASH Symphonic Band - Superior Rating
  • Jazz Ensemble 1 - Superior Rating
  • Jazz Ensemble 2 - Superior Rating
  • Jazz Ensemble 3 - Superior Rating
  • Indoor Drum Line - Superior Rating
  • Tiger Marching Band - Superior Rating
  • Indoor Drum Line - Superior Rating
  • Dance Team - Superior Rating
  • Indoor Guard - Superior Rating
  • NAI Wind Ensemble - Excellent Rating
  • Majorette Squad - Excellent Rating

 In addition to the ensemble awards, several North Allegheny students received individual honors. They are:

  • Lucas Mackaluso - Jazz 1 Best Soloist of the festival (Piano)
  • Jason Noh - Outstanding Soloist (NASH Honors Wind Ensemble/Euphonium)
  • Zachary Randall - Outstanding Soloist (Jazz 1/Drum Set)
  • Suzanne Gomes - Outstanding Soloist (NASH Symphonic Band/Piccolo)
  • Dario Denillo - Outstanding Soloist (Jazz 2/Tenor Sax)
  • David Inman - Outstanding Soloist (Jazz 3/Tenor Sax)
  • Claire Tunney - Outstanding Soloist (NAI Wind Ensemble/Alto Sax)

Features of the Fiest-Val festivals have been created and implemented by music educators and are intended to maintain high standards of excellence.
