North Allegheny Students Excel in Knowledge Master Open Academic Competitions

Teams of students from 48 states as well as teams from China, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates participated in grade-appropriate competitions.

The North Allegheny School District  proudly announces that two teams of students have recently earned honors in the Fall 2012 Knowledge Master Open academic competitions.

Teams of students from 48 states as well as teams from China, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates participated in grade-appropriate competitions using computers to answer 200 challenging multiple-choice questions from all curriculum areas.

A team from the North Allegheny Senior High School, sponsored by Ms. Christina Ruffolo, earned 1st Place in Pennsylvania and 3rd Place Overall in the nation, out of 551 schools participating.

The North Alegheny Senior High School team consisted of John Barczynski, Becca Beacham, Mike Becich, Surabhi Beriwal, Richa Duggirala, Suyash Fulay, Linda Huang, Evan Lee, Erik Liu, Tom McCoy, Kevin Mo, Dominic Moore, Natalie Morrisey, Connor Phillips, Anjali Premkumar, Jeff Rabinowitz, Sohail Sidique, Kyle Silberstein, Allison Staab, Nicholas Sullivan, Henry Taborski, Carol Wang, Derek Wang, and Michelle Xu.

A team from the North Allegheny Intermediate High School, sponsored by Ms. Janet Serdy, earned 2nd Place in Pennsylvania and 5th Place Overall in the nation. The students participating on the NAI team consisted of Sienna Chadran, Julie Choe, Kenny Connor, Joie Feng, Andrew Fong, Jon Hydock, Grace Jin, Josh Krassenstein, Alexa Lansberry, Sophia Lee, Gwen Lindberg, James McGaa, Zain Mehdi, Eric Mi, Jack Mo, Jack O’Sullivan, Ashwin Reddy, Gabe Ren, Russell Ruffolo, Maura Sanguigni, Michael Struk, Michelle Taynor, Grace Traynor, Megan Wadas, and Elaine Xu.

The Knowledge Master Open was designed to stimulate enthusiasm for learning and recognition for academic accomplishment. The contest runs on classroom computers to allow all students the opportunity to compete in a large academic event without the expense of traveling to a central site. Results of the contest are tabulated into overall, state and enrollment-size rankings by Academic Hallmarks, a Colorado publishing firm that hosts the event.
