With Cuba, have you ever wondered what’s behind the “curtain”. Cuba is just 90 miles off the coast of Florida and we as American travelers know so little about our next door neighbor. This month, presenters, Helga & Charles Klenk venture behind the “curtain”. Last year through a Road Scholar program (formerly Elderhostel), they visited Cuba in a “people to people" cultural exchange program. They visited many of their homes, schools and hospices. They will show us a wide range of socio-economic classes from the poor to the ordinary to the famous. We will also see the sights, learn about their obsession with antique cars, go shopping, as well as the local cuisine. We will travel to Havana, Santa Clara, Trinidad, and Cienfuegos. Some of the sites will include: Havana's capitol building was patterned after the US capitol, but is 2 meters higher. The Che Guevara memorial is located in Santa Clara, but Che is revered throughout Cuba. We will visit the small beach resort frequented by Cubans called Playa Giron. Americans call it the Bay of Pigs. No registration required. Refreshments will be served. So come join us.
