Alert Neighbor Thwarts Ivyland Burglary: Police

Police say an alert citizen helped thwart a home burglary in the Ivyland section of Northampton Township on Friday evening.

IVYLAND, PA — Police say an alert citizen helped thwart a home burglary in the Ivyland section of Northampton Township on Friday evening. According to police, shortly before 8:30 p.m. on May 26, Northampton Township were called to the IvyGreene Housing Development on Jacksonville and Bristol roads for a burglary in progress.

Police say a resident called officers after they noticed a suspicious car with two people sitting in it was parked in their neighbor's driveway. The neighbor's front door had been broken.

When police responded to the Ivygreene Development, they found a car matching the description provided by the neighbor. When officers stopped the car, they conducted an investigation, which led to the arrest of Joseph Donte West of Philadelphia and Tiffany T. Simon of Cheltenham.

West, 38, was charged with attempted burglary, criminal mischief, criminal trespass, possession of an instrument of a crime and conspiracy. He was arraigned in front of District Justice Gallagher and committed to Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of 10 percent of $400,000 bail.

"West has a extensive criminal history," according to police.

Simon was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Simon was arraigned before District Justice Snow and committed to Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of 10 percent of $100,000.00 bail. Simon also has a prior arrest record.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled in June for both defendants.
