Fleeing Vehicle Crashes, Driver Charged With DUI: Northampton Township Police Report

Police also responded to a fiery three-car crash and investigated a computer scam and an altered check that had been sent through the mail.

RICHBORO, PA — The Northampton Township Police Department reported a busy stretch from April 6 through April 12 that included a DUI arrest, a three-vehicle fiery traffic accident, two fire calls, and several fraud investigations.

According to the department’s weekly report, on April 12, police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Buck Road. Police reported that the vehicle fled, later crashed, and officers then spoke with the driver. Through investigation, the driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, as well as fleeing and eluding.

On April 7, police were called to the intersection of Newtown-Richboro Road and Spring Garden Mill for a reported traffic accident. According to police, unit 1 was traveling westbound on Newtown-Richboro Road and approaching Spring Garden Mill when it struck the rear of unit 2, which was slowing or stopped. Police reported that unit 2 then struck unit 3, which was also slowing or stopped. Two vehicles caught fire, and the Northampton Township Fire Department responded to the scene. Towing was required.

Police also reported two incidents that were assigned to detectives. On April 8, a resident came to the police station to report a scam after their computer froze and displayed a message directing them to call a phone number. According to police, the caller was told there was a problem with the computer and bank account and was instructed to withdraw money and deposit it into a Bitcoin machine. The resident realized it was a scam during the incident.

On April 10, patrol responded to a business in the Ivyland section of the township for a fraud report. The business reported that a check mailed through the United States Postal Service had been altered and deposited.

Fire calls also kept responders busy. On April 9, patrol responded to the Holland section of the township for a possible house fire. Police reported that a homeowner was hosing down a tree that had caught fire from a discarded cigarette. The fire department responded and extinguished the fire. On April 11, patrol responded to the 1000 block of Holland Road, where a small area of mulch and a fence were on fire.

Other calls included a suspicious vehicle at a closed business on 2nd Street Pike and a reported fight on Buck Road where no active fighting was found.

During the tour, patrol handled 19 alarm calls, 15 abandoned 911 calls, 35 medical emergencies, 8 bookings, 6 domestic disputes, 7 civil disputes, 73 traffic monitoring details, and 16 crime prevention details. The agency also attended the Veterans Expo held in the township.
