NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Northampton Township will begin Nova Chip surface treatment this week, weather permitting, on the following roads:
What Is Nova Chip?
Nova Chip, also known as an ultra-thin bonded wearing course, is a pavement preservation treatment designed to extend the life of the existing asphalt roadway and improve the driving surface.
'This is not a full roadway reconstruction or traditional milling and paving project," township officials said. "A thin, durable asphalt wearing course is applied over the existing pavement to seal the roadway, improve ride quality, and provide a new wearing surface."
Residents may notice minor preparation work before the Nova Chip application, including limited edge milling where necessary to provide a smooth transition at curbs, intersections, driveway aprons, utility structures, or other fixed elevations.
Important Information for Residents
Vehicles will not be permitted to park on the roadway during the posted construction period. Vehicles left on the roadway may be towed at the owner's expense.
The township's contractor, Asphalt Maintenance Solutions, LLC (AMS), will distribute door hanger notifications before work begins with more specific information on scheduling, parking restrictions, access, and the treatment process.
Residents should expect temporary delays and use caution around construction personnel and equipment. Once the material has been placed and properly compacted, the roadway will generally reopen to traffic as soon as conditions allow.
Important: To accommodate the Nova Chip road work, trash collection will begin at 5 a.m. in the development where Nova Chip work is being performed.
Residents on the affected roads should place all trash and recycling at the curb the night before their scheduled collection day to ensure their materials are available before crews arrive.
