Update: Ross Police Likely to Cite Truck Driver in Rollover Accident in Ross

Woman in crushed Toyota Camry taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Ross Township police say they will likely cite the driver of a Schwans' food truck involved in a rollover accident at the intersection of Cemetery Lane and Route 19/Perry Highway in this morning.

Police say the box truck was turning southbound off of the ramp from I-279 when it tipped over and crushed a Toyota Camry, which was in the northbound lane of Perry Highway.

Firefighters had to cut the roof and doors off of the car in order to free the woman, who was taken to Allegheny General hospital with what were described as serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

"Based on witness statements, it seems likely that the operator of the truck was traveling a higher speed than is posted for that roadway and that is likely in an attempt to beat the traffic light," said Ross Township Police Sgt. Benjamin Dripps.

The truck driver was also taken to Allegheny General. He was not seriously hurt. No word on either driver's name.

The truck was carrying several hundred pounds of food which had to be removed before the truck could be uprighted. The food was donated to several local food banks.

Investigators and a clean-up crew remained at the scene more than six hours after the accident, which occurred at approximately 6:15 a.m. Perry Highway was closed at Cemetery Lane in both directions. The accident also closed both the north and southbound off ramps of I-279.
