2012 Ross Township Commercial Landscape Awards

3 businesses were honored by Ross Commissioners.

Their buildings are relatively new, and the landscaping that surrounds them is award winning.

Allegheny City Electric, which renovated the old at 3080 Babcock Boulevard, won this year's Commercial Landscaping Award. He accepted the award at Tuesday night's commissioners' meeting.

Csonka Optometric, at 6013 Babcock Boulevard, finished second.

Third place went the new at the corner of Cemetery Lane and Babcock Boulevard.

Commissioner Peter Ferraro, who recalled the decades long battle to either tear down or renovate the old Beverly Hills Hotel, singled out Allegheny City Electric owner Michael J. Septak III for transforming a long-time eyesore into a beautiful, modern, commercial building.

"I couldn't be happier. I took a walk through the building during construction and I was just astounded at how nice the complex is," he said. "You did one helluva a job and you are to be commended."

The annual contest, to honor commercial properties with exceptional landscaping, is sponsored by the planning commission.
