Alice E. Greer O'Brien

Alice E. Greer O'Brien, a teacher of life and love, went quietly into the hands of the Lord Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, surrounded by family at her home at Grace Manor of North Park.

Alice was born April 6, 1927, in Butler, to the late Robert and Matilda (Eiffler) Greer. She met the love of her life, Samuel J. O'Brien, while working at the A&P Tea Co. Sam and Alice were married Sept. 13, 1949, in St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church.

Their 62 years of married life lives on in their children, Juanita (late Austin) O'Toole, of Erie, Samuel (Rosemarie), of Ross Township, Karen (Tim) Pugh, of Butler, David (Cheryll), of Loyalhanna, and Stephen (Arlene), of Ross Township; sister of Mary (Keith) Burtner, Catherine (late William) Hutchison and Lauretta (late Benjamin) Phillips; sister-in-law, Della (the late Robert) O'Brien; grandmother of Kimberly, Amy and Brien Gulish, of Erie, Christopher (Kim) O'Brien, Kelly (Mike) Stanton, Carey (Chris) Skelton, Erin Oliver and Matthew Pugh; great-grandmother of Anna Gulish, Cody, Kayla and Kadence O'Brien, Autumn Ford, Michael and Patrick Stanton and Nathanial and Noah Oliver; and great-great-grandmother of Julian and Jordan Gulish.

Alice and Sam made their home in Butler and then moved to Baden in 1962. There, Alice was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers.

Alice worked in sales at Troutman's in Butler and retired as a sales associate at Sears at the Beaver Valley Mall. After moving to Cranberry, she was active in the St. Ferdinand's prayer line. Alice always was surrounded by a circle of women friends, loved dancing with Sam, was a excellent seamstress, home decorator and cook, was known for her quick wit and great faith.

Most of all, her love was to be with her family and friends.
