Keeping an eye low in the west-northwestarea of the skies shortly after sunset Venus and Jupiter are both now visible. Venus is buried in deep twilight in mid-May but will become more visible as the month passes. The planet Mercury will climb up out of the glare of sunset, to appear low in the west at dusk. In the last week of May, Jupiter,Venus and Mercury will form a spectacular planetary trio. Around June 7, the planet will begin its descent pulling down and to the right of Venus. Mercury will gradually disappear, fading to be no brighter than the stars Castor and Pollux above it. All those interested in talking about this rare event and all things astronomy, are invited to join the Amateur Astronomy Club for its monthly meeting at the LIbrary. New members are always welcome. No fees or registration are required to join.
