ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA — Ross Park Mall, arguably the Pittsburgh area's premier shopping mall, apparently is losing one of its anchor stores.
JCPenney will close in September, the department store chain confirmed to WTAE-TV.
JCPenney previously filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2020< and officially emerged in December 2020 under the ownership of mall operators Simon Property Group and Brookfield Properties. It currently operates nearly 650 stores nationwide.
Last year, JCPenney merged with SPARC Group to form "Catalyst Brands," a retail portfolio that also includes Brooks Brothers, Aéropostale, and Lucky Brand. The move will leave JCPenney with stores in the following areas in Pennsylvania.
