ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA — Another Pittsburgh parkway will partially close next week, but the effects will not be as severe as the current partial closure of the Parkway East due to the Commercial Street Bridge replacement project.

The Allegheny County Department of Public Works on Friday announced that a portion of the Parkway North in Pittsburgh, Ross and Ohio Township, will be closed overnight Monday through Friday.

The closures are necessary to demolish Jacks Run Bridge No. 3, which carries Jacks Run Road over the parkway between Bellevue Road/Bellpark Drive and Kane Lane in Ross.

Here's the closure schedule:

Monday night (July 20) to Friday morning (July 24)

Friday night (July 24) to Saturday morning (July 25)

This schedule is weather-dependent. Demolition work cannot take place during heavy rainfall or when lightning is in the area.

When I-279 northbound (outbound) is fully closed:

Periodic closures of the parkway/I-579 HOV lanes are expected through August. A detailed schedule of closures for the following week will be released every Friday until the work is complete.

The parkway/I-579 HOV lanes are maintained by (PennDOT). The section of I-279 near Jacks Run Bridge No. 3 is used by an average of 73,367 vehicles daily.

The $2.8 million project is being funded by Federal Highway Administration money.

Public Works closed Jacks Run Bridge No. 3 in July 2025 after inspectors identified corrosion in the bridge’s only pier. The bridge carried an average of 4,631 vehicles daily.

Construction of a new bridge will take place as a separate project that is expected to begin next year.
