Sixth Annual Shaler Area Alumni Soccer Game

The Sixth Annual Shaler Area Alumni Soccer Game will be held Saturday, August 25 at 4:00 PM at the Biles Turf Field at Shaler Area High School, Wible Run Road in Shaler Township.  Tickets are free.  The event benefits the Scott Alexander Memorial Scholarship Fund, which was established in 2007 to honor the memory of 1989 Shaler graduate and standout athlete Scott Alexander, who lost a 22 day battle to brain cancer in 2007 at age 36.  The event also recognizes the significant impact Scott had as an organ donor – the organs, bone and tissue donated has helped between 30 to 50 people over the past five years.

A representative from the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) will be at the game to distribute information and answer questions about the importance of organ donation. The game is also an opportunity to help Shaler student athletes with their academic endeavors. Scott’s family and friends established this scholarship to help a graduating Shaler Area senior with expenses at an accredited post-secondary educational institution.  The Scott Alexander Memorial Scholarship awards $1000 scholarships to two Shaler Area graduating seniors who:
  • Have outstanding character and have lettered in either Varsity Soccer or Track and Field.
  • Maintained a high grade point average
  • Participated in community service
For more information on participating or attending the game, please contact George Alexander at (412) 779-1756 or alexanderg@sasd.k12.pa.us.  Donations are gratefully accepted, and can be directed to Shaler Area High School, Wible Run Road, Pittsburgh, PA  15209.
