Back To School In The North Hills: Five Things You Need To Know

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA - As you might have noticed, retailers already have begun back-to-school sales. North Hills School District kids won’t like hearing this, but they’ll soon have to hit the books again.

Here are five things that North Hills parents need to know about the 2017-18 school year:

1. The first day of classes will be Wednesday, Aug. 23.

2. School day schedules are as follows:

• Highcliff Elementary – 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• McIntyre Elementary - 9:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
• Ross Elementary – 9:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
• West View Elementary – 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• North Hills High School – 7:20 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• North Hills Middle School – 7:50 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

3. Transportation postcards indicating student bus stops with pickup and drop off times will be mailed the week of August 7. If your student needs a bus stop change, the district should be notified as quickly as possible. Forms to change bus stops are available here and can be mailed to bus@nhsd.net.

4. The orientations schedule is as follows:

Kindergarten

• Kindergarten Parent Orientation: Aug. 17, 6:30 to 8 p.m. in all elementary buildings (parents only)
• Kindergarten Student Orientation: Aug. 21, 9 to 10 a.m. in all elementary buildings

New Students in Grades 1 to 6

• Highcliff Elementary, Aug.16. 5 to 6 p.m.
• McIntyre Elementary, Aug. 21, 4 to 5 p.m.
• Ross Elementary, Aug. 21, 4 p.m.
• West View Elementary - Aug. 16 - 6 p.m.

Elementary Curriculum Night for Grades 1 to 6 will be Aug. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. in all elementary buildings.

Secondary Schools

• North Hills High School (Grade 9 and new district students): July 26 - 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. (1 p.m. session focuses on students New to NHSD); Aug. 9. 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
• North Hills Middle School: Grade 7 orientation and curriculum night, Aug. 17, 6 to 8 p.m.
