How will you spend those last precious days of summer?

As the calendar rolls over to August, it's time to start the countdown to that first day of school.

Oh, no, you might say. Not yet. How could you bring it up so early?

Well, back-to-school sales have started—a sure sign of the beginning of the academic year—and it's time to plan those remaining precious days of summer.

When does school start? Depends on whether you're a teacher or student

The first day for students is Monday, Aug. 27. Teachers head back for professional development and clerical days on Tuesday, Aug. 21.

Inevitably, the question comes around: What days do we have off? Here's the answer. Of course, this could change if there are snow days to make up. But, for now, go ahead and mark your calendar.

Sept. 3, Labor Day

Nov. 5, Parent conferences grades K-8, teacher in-service grades 9-12

Nov. 6, Parent conferences grades K-8, teacher in-service grades 9-12, election day

Nov. 22-26, Thanksgiving Break

Dec. 24-Jan. 1, Winter Break

Jan. 21, Martin Luther King Day

Feb. 18, President's Day

March 27, Teacher in-Service Day

March 28-April 1, Spring Break

April 2, Parent conferences grades K-6, teacher in-service grades 7-12

May 10, Half Day for Students & Friends & Family Day 

May 21, Professional Development day for teachers, primary election day

May 27, Memorial Day

May 31, Last Day for Students, Graduation
