Computer Tips and Tricks from Northland Library and LifeHacker

Brush up your computer skills with handy tips from LifeHacker, or take a free computer class at Northland Public Library.

As an employee in Northland's Computer Center, I get asked many questions each day about just about every aspect of computer use that you can imagine. So when I came across this great article by LifeHacker's Whitson Gordon, I was excited to share it with Northland patrons and Patch readers alike.  No matter if you are a computer wizard or just getting started, you'll probably find a tip in this article that will be helpful to you.

Gordon focuses on technological tasks and problems that come up for all of us, and gives straightforward advice on things like setting up a simple backup system, protecting your equipment from viruses, getting the most battery life out of your laptop and mobile devices, and making sure your personal information is secure, among other things.

If you're interested in learning new computer skills, or brushing up on the ones you already have, Northland Library offers a range of free monthly computer classes such as Computers for Beginners, Working with Digital Pictures, Intro to Social Media, and instruction for the latest Microsoft Office products. Check in at the Computer Center for our latest schedule of classes.

In the meantime, here is the link to the LifeHacker article: "The Top Ten Simple Things Every Computer User Should Know How to Do."  I hope you find it as useful as I did, and have fun learning!
