American Legion Post 80 honors local war hero Sgt. Joseph D. Caskey this Memorial Day
If you live in Ross Township or West View, you probably know about the American Legion Post 80 holds at the Laurel Gardens World War II monument. It’s always a day of solemn reflection as we honor our veterans who fell in defense of our nation, followed by some good food and fun for the whole community at our post. This year, we're planning something even bigger.
Back in November, our membership voted to rename our post after Marine Sgt. Joseph D. Caskey, a 2004 graduate of North Hills High School who was killed in Afghanistan. Sgt. Caskey came from a highly decorated military family going back to World War I. Both of his parents served in the Army. His grandfather was decorated for his service in World War II, and his great-grandfather fought in World War I. He has two brothers who also served in Iraq and Afghanistan. You may have here on the Patch before. is run in his honor as well.
We intend to honor Sgt. Caskey's memory as long as our post stands, and that starts this Memorial Day. The official dedication ceremony will be held at our post this coming Memorial Day, immediately following our traditional ceremony at the Laurel Gardens WWII monument. This Memorial Day will be a very, very special day for our post and also for the whole community.

We would like to extend a warm invitation to you and to everyone in the community who would like to join us in remembering our fallen warriors, and in honoring our local hero, Sgt. Joseph D. Caskey.
