Mmmm, Sir Pizza, mmmm.

My favorite Pizza in Ross Township....actually my favorite pizza anywhere!

I was super thrilled the other day to hear that we were running low on cat food.  Sounds strange I’ll admit but you see, running low on cat food means a trip to Sam’s Club to restock….and a trip to Sam’s Club means that we will be near .  If I time things right, I can usually convince the family to stop at Sir Pizza for dinner.  A stop at Sir Pizza for dinner IS something to get excited about in my book!

Since I have lived in Ross Township my entire life that means that I have been eating Sir Pizza for just about my entire life.  I remember trips there as a little girl, when there was a pool store in the corner (I think it was Alpine Pools) with a BIG Doberman as a guard dog that you could see through the window.  That was back in the day when the pizza came in those paper bags that were so skillfully wrapped around the hot pizza.  There wasn’t a large dining room like there is today, so we always ordered and picked up.  The drive home with the smell was torture!

High school days meant stops in to Sir Pizza after volleyball games, complete with certain songs on the juke box that we would sing along to.  College days meant frequent stops in with my friend Jonn who also had a love of Sir Pizza (and now lives in Maine and is deprived of Sir Pizza).

These days I stop in with my family.  I’ve passed my love of Sir Pizza on to my son and my husband seems to enjoy it, although not as much as I do.

I don’t know what it is…whether it is the little square pieces, the combination of cheeses that they use, or the sweet sauce.  I’ve never tasted anything like it, or even close to it.

Although I have to admit; I’ve cheated on the original restaurant and tried the other location in Wexford.  But it just doesn’t taste the same.  The best Sir Pizza comes from the original (to me) location on the corner of Sewickley Oakmont.  I'm not sure about the locations outside of Pennsylvania (I believe it's a big franchise down south) although if I was on vacation and saw one, I'd probably have to try it.

There aren’t too many other places in Ross Township/West View that have been around since 1975 so I think part of the deliciousness of Sir Pizza is the history.  While some things have changed (no more little bags as they now use boxes when you carry out pizza and the dining room has expanded), some things have stayed the same.  My son was playing a Pac Man and Dig Dug game there last night, probably the same one that I played as a kid.  While the juke box has been updated, it still has a few of the same songs on it that I enjoyed in high school.  But the best part is that the taste of the pizza hasn’t changed.  They haven’t tried to improve it or change the formula.  It’s still the same yummy pizza that I remember from when I was a little girl.

The family that owns and operates Sir Pizza also seems proud of their history.  Old photos line the walls and one entire wall has wedding pictures on it, which I assume are all the family members.  They also appear to be very much involved in the day to day operations as it was the owner’s son that rang up my order last night.  They have carved out their niche in the North Hills and the fact that they have two other locations in Wexford and Cranberry seems to indicate that they have found a formula for success.

So I have to say that Sir Pizza is my hands down all-time favorite pizza in the Ross Township area....or for that matter....in all areas!  I could happily eat nothing but Sir Pizza but the fact that we don't live right next door to it and in the interest of compromise, there are a few other pizzeria's that I enjoy in the area.  I think  on Babcock and in West View (another long standing establishment since 1978) have excellent pizza as well.
