Animal Friends Campaign Nets $2500 – and One Adoption!
Kim Quarantillo never would have imagined that a Saturday morning water aerobics class at Club Julian would change her life – not to mention the fortunes of a cute 3-year-old terrier mix!
After enjoying her morning workout in the pool, Kim noticed posters in the Club announcing the arrival of the Animal Friends mobile resource vehicle later that same day. Intrigued by the possibility of welcoming a new family member now that her two adult sons have moved out on their own, she decided to return to Club for the “meet & greet” fundraising event.

It was there that she fell in love with poodle mix named Toby. “But when I called Animal Friends a couple days later, they said he had been adopted,” says Kim.
Disappointed, but clearly undaunted, the Hampton Twp. resident went straight to the Animal Friends website looking for an alternative companion. That’s when she first laid on eyes on Tilly. “She was so cute,” says Kim, who was excited to learn that the 9-lb. Cairn Terrier mix was available and looking for a good home!

Now, a few months later, Tilly is right at home with Kim and her husband Paul, and everything is going great. “I didn’t know what to expect, not knowing her history,” says Kim, “but I couldn’t ask for a better, more well-behaved dog. I am so happy.”
And, it goes without saying, so is Tilly!
Kim and Tilly’s story isn’t the only happy ending in the Club Julian/Animal Friends recent partnership. The Club is pleased to announce that through the support of its members and employees, it has reached its goal of raising $1250 for the no-kill shelter. The member-generated support is being matched by the Julian Family, raising the total Club Julian donation to $2500!
“Partnering with Animal Friends was a fantastic experience for everyone at Club Julian,” says Mike Savrese, general manager. “The way our members stepped up to support the organization is testimony to the type of people we have here, and it should be commended.”
Club Julian raised the money through special events, individual donations, and a Chinese Raffle. A check will be presented to Animal Friends in July.
