Elementary Teacher Headed To Trial On Indecent Assault Charges

The North Hills School District teacher was arrested last month.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA - A North Hills School District elementary school teacher will stand trial after allegedly touching a student inappropriately during a gym class activity.

Highcliff Elementary School teacher Nathan Buttenfield, 41, of Gibsonia, was ordered to stand trial following a preliminary hearing Wednesday. He was charged with indecent assault, institutional sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, endangering the welfare of a child and corrupting the morals of a minor.

Buttenfield has been on leave from the district since Nov. 7, the first school day for students after the alleged behavior toward the female student occurred on Nov. 2. The allegations were investigated by Ross police and the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office.
