Garden and Landscape Symposium and Marketplace


The 18th annual Garden & Landscape Symposium of Western Pennsylvania will take place Saturday, April 20, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Shady Side Academy in the Hillman Center for Performing Arts in Fox Chapel (423 Fox Chapel Rd  Pittsburgh, PA 15238).   Penn State Extension and Phipps Conservatory and Shady Side Academy Senior School sponsor the event.


Presenters include Bill Thomas, executive director and head gardener at Chanticleer garden in Philadelphia; Kerry Mendez, garden consultant and designer; Thomas Rainer, landscape architect and designer; Whitney Cranshaw, entomology specialist at Colorado State University; and Joe Tychonievich, nursery manager of Arrowhead Alpines. 


The symposium includes breakfast and lunch and time to shop at the Garden Marketplace that will be held in the ice rink on the Shady Side Senior School campus.  Featured at the Garden Marketplace are unusual hard-to-find perennials, annuals, shrubs, heirloom vegetable plants and seeds, native plants, bonsai specimens, alpines and rock garden plants and garden accessories.

Registration for the Symposium can be made by calling Phipps Garden Center, 412-441-4442 or online at www.landscapesymposium.org.  The fee is $115 There is no charge to visit the Garden Marketplace.
