Our documentary feature for June will be God Grew Tired of Us, which chronicles the experiences of three Sudanese refugees and their relocation to Pittsburgh.
John Bul Dau, Panther Bior and Daniel Abul Pach are three of the nearly 27,000 orphaned children who marched thousands of kilometres across desert sands to flee the Sudanese Civil War in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Finally, in their early 20s, they prepare to move to the United States, where, as of them says, "You can't go to bed with an empty stomach." Watching them as they try to adapt to foreign schools, menial jobs and completely unfamiliar urban environments, we wonder how much better their situations really are.
