About the Play
Isaac Dumont has achieved a cult following performing as "Ruthie" in The Eden Club, a local jazz haven where his partner, a mechanic by trade, serves as the emcee. But Isaac's true desire is to sing the gospel music dearest to his heart -- a dream that rankles his religious community as much as his professional one. Set in 1987 and based on real events, The Gospel Singer bounces between communities all seeking spirituality in very different ways.

About In the Raw Festival
Expanded from Bricolage’s ongoing In the Raw series, this year’s 5-week festival format will give three local playwrights the opportunity to work closely with a dramaturg to revise, explore, and solidify a new work. Each of the selected three plays will receive a week-long workshop with a director, a dramaturg, and professional actors. The workshop will culminate in public readings at Bricolage Theater in downtown Pittsburgh, followed by audience response sessions. Join us as we celebrate emerging work and our local theater community!
