Fire Damages Ross House For Sale

Investigators believe it started in the garage.

Investigators are trying to pinpoint the cause of a fire, which apparently started in the garage and heavily damaged a Ross Township home at 444 Bascom Avenue Thursday afternoon.

The home, owned by Gerald Fabiszewski, was for sale. The 4-bedroom Cape Cod had been on the market since May 10 for $155,000, according to the Zillow Real Estate web site.

Fabiszewski had moved out, but many of his belongings were still in the home according to WPXI TV.

“The owner was here approximately an hour before the fire started and everything was fine,” said John A. Reubi.

The focus of the investigation is the owner’s motorcycle, which he had just put back into the garage.

“He just brought it out to run it because he had it up for sale, and then he put it back in the garage, like he’s done many times before,” Reubi said.

No one was home when the fire started; one firefighter was taken to the hospital for a shoulder injury.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshall is assisting in the investigation. “I called in the county because of the extent of the damage,” said Reubi.
