Former Ross Toys R Us Store To Be Auctioned

The Ross location is one of four in the Pittsburgh area that will be sold off later this month.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA - The former Toys R Us store at Ross Park Mall is among four former Pittsburgh-area locations of the defunct retailer that will be auctioned by Manhattan real estate brokerage A&G Realty Partners on Aug. 13 and 14.

The other former stores are in Cranberry, Monroeville and Monaca.

"Rarely do these many prime retail properties become available all at once,” Emilio Amendola, co-president of A&G Realty, said in a statement. “ As with our prior, well-attended auctions for Toys R Us sites, we anticipate a robust response to this group of properties."

Hundreds of Toys R' Us stores closed in the United States in 2018, one of the most high-profile casualties of the so-called "retail apocalypse."

Conor Flynn, CEO of Kimco Realty Corporation, said at a consumer conference in June that many of the larger big-box storefronts will be taken up by Hobby Lobby, according to a recent report in The Wall Street Journal.

According to the Journal, Flynn said off-price retailers, fitness centers and specialty grocers are likely to go after the Toys R' Us stores that are about 35,000 square feet each. The smaller stores, that are 20,000-25,000 square feet, are more suited for retailers like TJ Maxx and Marshalls, Flynn said, per the Journal.
