Giant Eagle, Allegra Offer Free Allergy Screenings

The screenings will be held Saturday. A laboratory will analyze small blood samples to test for the 10 most common allergens.

and Allegra have teamed up to offer free in-store allergy screenings from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Village at Pine grocery store. Participants must be 18 or older.

A small blood sample will be collected by a simple fingerstick and then sent to a lab for analysis, according to Giant Eagle's website.

"The laboratory tests for the 10 most common allergens, including: milk, wheat, egg, cat dander, timothy grass, Bermuda grass, mountain cedar, ragweed, mold, dust mite," the website explains.

Patients will receive the results via mail within three weeks.

"Patients with positive results for any of the allergens indicated will receive a personalized allergy plan with action items to help alleviate symptoms," the website said. "Share your results with your doctor to develop a treatment plan for allergy relief."

Allegra is a drug used for the treatment of allergy symptoms.
