Giant Eagle Opening A Value King Grocery Store In Ross Towne Center
The discount grocery store is expected to open in the fall.
It appears that a discount grocery store war is about to break out in on McKnight Road in .
confirmed today it is planning to open a discount version of its chain, Valu King, sometime in October or November.
“We are excited to bring our first Pittsburgh-area Valu King location to Ross Town Center later this fall,” said Giant Eagle spokesman Dick Roberts.

The store will be located at the former home of , which is right next door to a store which is also set to open later this summer.
Asked why the company is putting a store directly next to the competition, Roberts said, “The time is right to bring that banner to Pittsburgh. It's a good location, and there aren’t many other desirable locations on McKnight Road."

Giant Eagle operates 7 Valu King stores, 4 in northeast Ohio, 2 in Erie, and one in Johnstown.
The Valu King stores aim to appeal both to budget-minded shoppers as well as those who like fresh produce and other perishables, the Cleveland Plain Dealer recently reported.
Mixed in with store brands like Valu Time, Food Club and Top Care are limited-quantity closeouts, a meat counter and deli offerings and even a cheese counter.
