Homicide Rocks Quiet Pittsburgh Suburb

A woman was slain Wednesday night in the heart of the borough's business district.

BELLEVUE, PA — A woman was shot and killed Wednesday night in the business district of this normally quiet Pittsburgh suburb.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue near Dollar General and Pizza Hut.

First responders found a 28-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to an area hospital where she died.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office on Thursday identified the woman as Rachel Dowden, 28, of Pittsburgh's South Side.

The homicide is the first in Bellevue since 2016, when two were reported. There were three homicides in the borough between 2010 and 2020, according to FBI crime statistics.

Allegheny County police are investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the county police tip line 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
