Ingram Man Charged with DUI in Ross Hit & Run

Victim helped police locate suspect when he drove from accident scene.

 revealed today they have charged Michael O'Shea, 54, of Ingram with DUI in connection with a hit and run accident on Perry Highway in Ross on July 11.

About 3:30 that afternoon, a woman called police to say that she had been involved in a collision with a white cargo van while driving south on Perry Highway near Graham Road. Rather than stop, the van drove off, and the woman followed, using her cell phone to tell police its location.

eventually stopped the van on Union Avenue, approaching I-279.

Police said before the van pulled over, a passenger, later identified as his son, switched seats with O'Shea.

O'Shea later admitted to being the driver at the time of the accident, according to the police report.

Police say when they interviewed O'Shea, officers smelled alcohol on his breath, his speech was thick and slightly slurred, and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The police report indicates O'Shea also failed a field sobriety test.

Police say O'Shea had a blood alochol content of .133. Drivers are considered legally drunk when their blood alcohol level is .08 or more.

O'Shea is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 12.
