Legendary Pittsburgh Tavern Closing After 7-Decade Run

Renowned for its fish sandwiches, this bar will be shutting its doors 71 years after it debuted.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA — Say it isn't so. Kretzler's Tavern, a staple on Babcock Boulevard for 71 years, will permanently close on Dec. 31.

The closure announcement was made on the bar's Facebook page.

"Wow…..71 years , four generations have busted their butts to give the North Hills and surrounding communities a place to eat and drink. To mourn a loss of a family member. To celebrate a wedding, baby, graduation,Christmas party," the post stated.

"We would like to thank every patron who supported us over all these years. The countless votes for best fish sandwich will always be in our hearts."

The bar will close on Dec. 31.

Next up for the space: A Mike and Tony's Gyro's location. The locally-based chain has locations Downtown and on the South Side, Bridgeville, Dormont and Moon.
