“I am excited about being here. It is a great community,” said Mannarino, who was visibly choked up following the announcement. “I am looking forward to having the opportunity to lead this district.”
Mannarino started in North Hills in 2002. He was senior high school assistant principal until 2006 and senior high school principal until 2010 before advancing to assistant superintendent last July. Before his arrival in North Hills, he was a social studies teacher, assistant athletic director and dean of students at Blackhawk School District in Beaver County.

During his time in North Hills, Mannarino expanded the senior high school’s Advanced Placement program, added more online offerings and developed six online social studies courses and two online professional development courses for use by teachers in Fayette, Greene and Washington counties.
The number of district students recognized by the National Merit Scholarship and Advanced Placement Scholars programs rose during his tenure at the senior high, according to a district press release.
Goodnack has been the district’s leader for five years after also serving as assistant superintendent.
“He is going to do a wonderful job. He is an excellent educator,” Goodnack said.
School directors Tim Burnett and Robert Barto were absent from Monday’s meeting.
