Martorelli Stadium Turf Replacement Project Nears Completion

New additions to the field include red end zones and lacrosse field markings. A red and white North Hills logo remains unchanged.

The final steps of s artificial turf replacement project are taking place this week at in West View.

Crews from TPK Inc. of Allison Park by Friday plan to complete lines, letters and a North Hills logo, and to install granulated infill that provides traction, said Jon Thomas of Thomas and Williamson Program Management.

“Within a week, they will have the fill in and (the field will be) ready for game time,” he said Monday at a North Hills Board of Directors meeting.

The $387,500 project started June 11 and has continued on schedule and on budget, Thomas said. 

“If you blinked your eyes, you missed the whole project. It went so fast,” Thomas said.

New additions to the field include red end zones and incorporated lacrosse field markings. A red and white North Hills logo remains unchanged.            

School directors, in a 5-3 vote in May, approved replacing the 8-year-old turf despite a turf grass consultant's recommendation in 2010 that the field could serve the district’s purposes for three more years. The winning bid out of five submitted was $100,000 below the amount budgeted in the district’s 2010-11 budget.
