No Surveillance Video of McKnight Dragging Incident or Attempted Ross Carjacking

Police are still seeking witnesses in attempted carjacking case.

say surveillance cameras failed to capture images of two violent incidents along McKnight Road last week.

that shortly before 7 p.m. on July 17, she was putting her child into her car outside the  in North Hills Village, when a man grabbed her from behind and said he wanted the car. The woman told police she screamed, but that the man refused to let her go, struck her in the face, and then eventually ran off.

"We looked at the video, but unfortunately the only thing the camera captured was the victim's car driving through the lot," said Ross Township Detective Brian Kohlhepp. "We only received one 9-1-1 call so we are still hoping witnesses will come forward."

The next day, an unidentified man was dragged nearly a quarter of a mile in rush hour traffic before he fell from the vehicle in front of the store at 7203 McKnight.

Ross police say surveillance camera failed to record anything significant, but unlike the attempted carjacking, there are plenty of witnesses.

One woman, who did not want to be identified was on a cell phone to her husband while she was stopped at the light on Patrick Place at the entrance to Ross Park Mall.

“And I noticed there was a black SUV, and there was an individual who was going around front making motions to the people inside the car trying to get them to talk to him,” she told KDKA TV.

She said she could not see what was upsetting the man, who had gotten out of his tan truck and was standing his ground when the light turned green.

“I noticed as the black car pulled away there were some legs flailing alongside of it,” the woman told KDKA-TV.

Hanging on to the passenger-side door of the SUV, the man was dragged a quarter-of-a-mile before falling into the parking lot of the mattress store.

If you witnessed either of these incidents, or have any information, you are asked to call Ross police at 412-931-9070.
