North Hills Awarded PA Harvest Of The Month Grant; Student Chefs Testing Cabbage Recipes

This week, students in Amy Patsilevas' Future of Food classes designed and made recipes using North Hills' item: cabbage.

North Hills was one of 10 Pennsylvania school food service departments chosen to participate in the PA Harvest of the Month's Recipe Standardization Grant program.

Each department was assigned a local produce item to design recipes around, one of which will be chosen to go into a national database that schools across the United States could use as part of their school meal program.

This week, students in Amy Patsilevas’ Future of Food classes designed and made recipes using North Hills’ item: cabbage.

Dishes included a Mediterranean cabbage salad, chicken chow mein, beef and cabbage stir fry, and even a red cabbage smoothie!

The items will be sampled in some of our other schools before a final recipe is chosen for submission.

North Hills will receive a portion of a $73,000 grant for participating in the program.
