ROSS TONSHIP, PA - The North Hills School District announced Monday it is extending its coronavirus schools closure through at least April 30 following new social distancing guidelines released by President Trump on Sunday. All district facilities, fields and playgrounds also will remain closed.

The district will begin daily virtual instruction for all students on April 1. This follows four flexible instruction days the district held over the past two weeks. Virtual instruction days will continue through at least April 30, but there will be no instruction on Good Friday, April 10, or Easter Monday on April 13.

Teachers will utilize Google Classroom, Zoom and other available tools and resources to instruct students. The district’s complete virtual instruction plan was released to families Monday morning and also is accessible on the district website.

“We are committed to our students and continuing their education,” superintendent Patrick Mannarino said in a district release. “We are sympathetic to the challenges faced by all, and promise to continue to help our families navigate this new normal. Our teachers will focus on the most essential elements of our curriculum and select content and assignments that are conducive to online learning. We are focused on the learning, not on the grading, during this difficult time."

The district's breakfast and lunch program will continue on school days during the closure. Pickup is from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at West View Elementary School. Additional provisions will be distributed on April 9 to provide enough food for Easter weekend as there will be no distribution on April 10 or
April 13.
