North Hills Fencing Club Beginners' Class (5 week intro to fencing lessons)

The North Hills Fencing Club is running a 5 week beginners' class for ages 11 and up.  The total cost for the class including equipment is $32 per student.

DATES:
10/1/13, 10/8/13, 10/18/13 (Friday), 10/22/13 and10/29/13

TIME: 6-8PM

LOCATION: North Hills Community Baptist Church (7801 Thompson Run Rd Pittsburgh, PA 15237)

ITEMS NEEDED FOR THE FIRST PRACTICE:  Loose jeans/sweatpants, t-shirt, tennis shoes.  No shorts are
permitted at practices.

No money is due at the first practice however the United States Fencing Association (USFA) requires all students to be insured; there is a single day free USFA trial membership form which will need to be filled out the day of your first practice (parents of anyone under age 18 will also need to sign this form).  All paperwork will be available at the first practice including the USFA trial membership form, medical waiver, and the rules and requirements of the North Hills Fencing Club.

Prior to the Second Practice a USFA membership with NHFC listed as your primary or secondary club is required.  The USFA membership can be the $5 noncompetitive membership.  This is a USFA insurance requirement as of the 2012-2013 season.  Also at the second practice $27 ($12 for a fencing glove and $15 for the class) is due.  The medical waiver (which also states that the fencer has read and agrees to the safety rules of the club) is due at the second practice as well. Boys are required to wear athletic cups when we start using the foils. The club has chest protectors for the girls (also required protective equipment) that fit into pockets in the fencing jackets; these can be ordered from any fencing equipment company if the fencer would like to have their own. This protection will not be needed at the first or second class as we will still be going over the basics of footwork and hand positions.
