North Hills Names First Director Of Elementary Education
A familiar face to district parents has been promoted into the newly created position.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA, - North Hills School District has appointed long-time McIntyre Elementary School principal Amy Mathieu to the newly created position of director of elementary education. She assumes her new duties, which include overseeing all aspects of elementary instruction and supervising all elementary principals and staff, on July 1.
"Mrs. Mathieu has done an extraordinary job at McIntyre Elementary where she has led a high-performing school for more than 20 years," superintendent Patrick J. Mannarino said in a statement. "When faced with challenges, she responds with resounding optimism and a drive that inspires others to achieve their goals and continually improve themselves academically, socially and emotionally. I believe she is among the best educators in Pennsylvania, and our elementary students and staff no doubt will thrive under her leadership.”

Mathieu has served as McIntyre Elementary principal since 1998. During her time there, she oversaw the merger of three elementary buildings into one larger McIntyre community, a major renovation project and a minor addition project.
She supervises the district's elementary English Language Learner program and has served as the elementary representative on the district's Curriculum Council. She also created and fostered a School-wide Positive Behavior System and implemented "Responsive Classroom Morning Meeting Concept" and "Seven Habit of Happy Kids" as guiding themes at the building level.

Before joining North Hills, she served as an assistant principal, a reading specialist and an elementary teacher in the Hampton Township School District.
Mathieu holds a principal's certificate from Carnegie Mellon University. She earned her master's degree in reading from Slippery Rock University and her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Grove City College.
