North Hills School District: Fifth Grade GATE Students Collect Donations For West View HUB's Food Pantry
In addition to the donation drive, GATE students shared presentations and videos they created about hunger with their younger classmates.

Learning about hunger and its widespread impacts across the world, West View Elementary School fifth grade GATE students organized a fundraiser to benefit the West View HUB’s Food Pantry.

Throughout the month of January, the students collected a total of $414.49 from classmates and then donated the funds to the pantry on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
Each week, the West View HUB Food Pantry feeds between 350 and 400 people. Scott Pavlot, the HUB’s executive director and founder, said the students’ donation is enough to include meat and other proteins often in short supply at the pantry in food bags for those in need for approximately two weeks.

While dropping off the money Tuesday, students also took a tour of the HUB Pantry, located directly next to the HUB, and had the opportunity to ask questions about its operations.

Located in the heart of the West View Borough, the West View HUB opened during the summer of 2019 and serves as a community gathering place hosting weekly and monthly events, free library and internet cafe.
