North Hills School District: Ross Elementary Marks Black History Month With Lessons, Projects

In classes and grade levels across Ross Elementary this month, students spent time learning, reading, researching and discussing influential black historical figures from both the past and present.

From watching videos and listening to music, to reading stories that engaged classroom discussions, teachers weaved black history into school day lessons to make meaningful connections, in various ways.
Several classes completed research projects, as shown below. The posters are on display in the halls around Ross. Others researched historical figures and taught their classmates about their chosen person.

One class created a “Timeline of Greatness” with biography cards of influential Black Americans from the 1700s to modern day, while another added inspirational quotes of famous Black Americans to a special quote wall.
