North Hills Schools Ramp Up Security, Safety Measures

Here's what you can expect as the 2018-19 school year begins.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA - With classes resuming Tuesday following summer vacation, the North Hills School District is beefing up security and safety programs for the 2018-19 school year.

Superintendent Patrick Mannarino said in a district release that following a year-long evaluation of the district’s security policies, the following steps are being taken:

  • The North Hills School District Police Department has its first four members who bring more than 100 total years of police experience to the district. They are Chief Dean Lawrence and school police officers Robert Muchenski, Charles Bossong and Adam Steinheiser.
  • A new standard response protocol for emergency situations is being implemented. The details have been posted online and shared with district staff, local emergency services and police departments.
  • A captured vestibule entrance has been added at West View Elementary School and locked swiped entry doors have been installed at the central administration offices.
  • At the secondary buildings, students no longer will walk between buildings during class changes.
  • The district is adding two anti-violence programs by the Sandy Hook Promise organization.
