Parkway North HOV Lanes Closing For A Week

Lanes being prepared for new traffic configuration occurring April 16.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA - For nearly a week, the Parkway North’s high-occupancy vehicle lanes will be no-occupancy vehicle lanes. PennDOT will close the HOV lanes in Ross and Pittsburgh at 10 a.m. on April 10 and won’t reopen them until April 16.

The lanes will be closed until a new traffic pattern goes into effect as part of an $87 million rehabilitation of the parkway (I-279). During the week, crews will prepare for the traffic shift by installing some barriers, removing others and painting new lines.

The HOV lane closures might be the most significant aspect of the project in the coming week, but they hardly will be the only one. Single-lane restrictions will occur in each direction of the parkway in various locations between the Fort Duquesne Bridge and the Camp Horne Road exit. Lane restrictions will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. April 10 through April 16.

Additional details on the new southbound traffic pattern will be revealed before the shift occurs. PennDOT will rehabilitate the inbound lanes this year before turning to the outbound ones in 2018.
