PG's North Xtra Names North Hills' Emily Jamison Female High School Athlete of the Year

Jamison excelled in three sports during her high school career.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's North Xtra has named North Hills graduating senior Emily Jamison as its female high school athlete of the year.

Jamison led the girls' lacrosse team to back-to-back WPIAL Division II championships. She capped her career by scoring against Chartiers Valley in this year's championship game.

This is not the first honor for Jamison. She was named an academic all american in 2010, when she was a sophomore.

Jamison excelled in three different sports at North Hills. She is considered one of the top lacrosse players in the state and accepted a scholarship to Robert Morris University.

Jamison was also a three-year starter as the goalkeeper for the North Hills girls soccer team and a two-year starter at forward for the Indians in girls basketball.

"She was probably one of the most coachable high school athletes I've ever been around," North Hills girls basketball coach Tom Sandherr told the Post-Gazette. "Just her attitude and being committed to the program and giving you everything she had and paying attention to her coaches. Everything that you need to have a successful athlete, she did it all for us."

"Emily is probably the best athlete I've ever seen at the high school level in our program," North Hills girls soccer coach Pete Torres told the Post-Gazette.

"She's phenomenal," said Rachel McGregor, who coached Jamison since she first started playing lacrosse. "She was the leader of our team; she really has kind of a quiet leadership quality and she really sees the field well. The other girls really sort of mimic the way she plays," she told the Post-Gazette.

"She was the real rock of our team, and she really just is, I guess, the ideal athlete. What can I say about her in lacrosse? She perfected the sport, and she's done a lot to bring attention to the sport of lacrosse at North Hills."
