Route 28 Southbound Ramp to I-579 Southbound Closed This Weekend
Summertime in Pittsburgh means road construction. The Veterans Bridge Improvement project continues this weekend.

The southbound (inbound) Route 28 ramp to I-579 Veterans Bridge will be closed beginning Friday night at 8 pm through Monday 6 am. Work to improve the ramp will occur this weekend, Aug. 24-27 weather permitting.
Crews will be removing and replacing expansion dams on the ramp. Police will assist with traffic control during peak periods. Signs will be posted to guide motorists.
Posted detour: Exit onto East Ohio Street · Make right onto Madison Avenue · Continue north to East Street · Crossover I-279 (Parkway North) · At Venture Street, make right to the on-ramp to southbound I-279 · Continue south to the Veterans Bridge/I-579 · End detour

Motorists are advised to use caution, allow extra time and expect changing traffic patterns. Alternate routes should be considered.
The work is part of the $36 million Crosstown Boulevard/Veterans Bridge Preservation Projects Phases I & II.

The prime contractor for the projects is the Trumbull Corporation of Pittsburgh. Construction will conclude in 2013.
