Maria Semple’s
hilarious and satirical novel, Where’d You Go, Bernadette, skewers a
pretentious, upscale Seattle community whose inhabitants are
excruciatingly smart and successful. Bernadette cannot stand most of
them and becomes increasingly reclusive until she finally disappears.
Semple was a television writer before she wrote books and her talent in
combining many formats in one story is evident throughout.
Bring your brown bag lunch around 11:30 a.m. The library provides tea
and coffee. We’ll begin our lively book discussion at noon. No
registration is required. Newcomers are always welcome.
February’s book is Dear Life, by Nobel prize-winning author, Alice
Munro.
