This month we're traveling to St. Petersburg, Russia The city is known as the "Venice of the North" because the it was built on a marsh that contained over 45 islands. Before Moscow, St. Petersburg was the capital of Russia. All of the emperors (Tsars) lived here. To accommodate the royalty, many palaces and castles were built. We'll tour the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood with its multicolored onion domes, built on the spot where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated. From here we'll tour Peter the Great's Winter Palace, better known as the "Hermitage" This art museum is one of the largest and most magnificent museums/buildings in the world. From here we'll travel 30k to the Summer Palace (Peterhof), also known as the "Russian Versailles" It is one of the most ornate and beautiful palaces in the world with its magnificent park and world renowned fountains.
