Two Hurt in Ross Township Collision

One of the victims is a 16-year-old girl. Her mother, who was driving, will be cited for careless driving.

Two people were hurt Monday morning in a collision at the Union Avenue on-ramp to southbound Interstate 279 in  after police said the driver of one of the vehicles ran a red light.

A black Ford Taurus was turning left onto the on-ramp when it was involved in a T-bone collision with a red Volvo heading east on Union Avenue, according to .

"The operator of the Taurus was traveling west along Union Avenue and in an attempt to turn onto I-279 South she went through a steady red traffic signal," said Ross police Sgt. Benjamin Dripps.

Police said the driver of the Ford would be cited for careless driving 

EMS workers said it took them 7 minutes to free the passenger of the Ford, the driver's 16-year-old daughter, from the wreckage. She was taken to Mercy Hospital. The driver of the Volvo was taken to Allegheny General hospital. Police said it did not appear that either was seriously hurt. Their names have not been released.
