Violent Crime On The Rise In The North Hills

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA - Mirroring national and regional trends, incidents of violent crime in the North Hills increased last year. That’s according to the FBI’s just-released “Crime in the United States” report.
While there were no homicides in Ross or West View last year, the number of sexual assaults and aggravated assaults rose in both communities. In regard to other criminal activity, 2016 was a mixed bag. For example, the number of burglaries declined in Ross but jumped in West View;.motor vehicle thefts increased in Ross but dropped in West View.
Nationally, violent crime increased for the second consecutive year. There were an estimated 17,250 murders in the nation last year, an 8.6 percent increase from 2015. Overall violent crime rose 4.1 percent last year. Regionally, the number of violent crimes rose in the seven-county Pittsburgh metro statistical area.
